Notebook Extension Privacy Policy

This policy explains how Notebook Extension (the “Extension”), provided by madhava (the “Developer”), handles information. The Extension is an independent product for Gemini Notebook (formerly NotebookLM) and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Google LLC.

1. Scope and single purpose

The Extension helps a user collect sources and send them to a NotebookLM notebook chosen by that user. Its features include current-page import, bulk URL import, browser-tab collection, page-link collection, YouTube playlist collection, local-file upload, notebook management, and user-requested generation of NotebookLM outputs.

2. Information handled

Only when required for a feature requested by the user, the Extension may handle:

  • the URL and title of the current page;
  • URLs of open HTTP or HTTPS browser tabs when the user selects Collect;
  • link URLs and limited page structure read from a page selected by the user;
  • public YouTube playlist and video identifiers;
  • local files explicitly selected through the browser file picker, including file name, type, size, and content;
  • NotebookLM notebook identifiers, titles, source counts, source metadata, and generated-output metadata;
  • the selected destination, language, generation settings, feature preferences, import progress, and recent operation results.

For page-link collection, page content is read temporarily to identify links. The page body is not retained or sent to a server operated by the Developer.

3. Google sign-in and authentication

The Extension uses the NotebookLM session already established in the user’s browser. It does not provide its own Google OAuth login, read or store the user’s Google password, or copy authentication cookies into Developer-operated systems. Authenticated requests are sent directly from the browser to Google.

4. How information is used and transmitted

The information above is used only to provide the user-facing operation that the user requested, display destinations and progress, remember preferences, and report errors.

Selected URLs, files, and instructions are transmitted over HTTPS directly to Google’s NotebookLM service. YouTube playlist requests are sent to YouTube as needed to identify videos. The current version does not transmit browsing activity, files, notebook data, prompts, analytics, or usage history to a server operated by the Developer.

Information delivered to NotebookLM or YouTube is governed by Google’s applicable terms and privacy policy.

5. Local storage and retention

Notebook identifiers and titles, selected destinations, preferences, generation settings, feature toggles, and recent operation state may be stored in browser extension storage. Active import state may also remain in memory while an import is running.

The Developer does not maintain a server-side copy of this data. Users can remove locally stored Extension data by uninstalling the Extension or clearing the Extension’s storage through the browser. Content already sent to NotebookLM must be managed from the user’s Google account.

6. Sharing and prohibited uses

The Extension does not sell or rent user data, use it for advertising, allow humans to read it, or provide it to unrelated third parties. Data is transferred to Google only as necessary to perform the operation requested by the user, or when disclosure is required by applicable law.

The Extension’s use of information complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.

7. Permissions

The Extension uses browser permissions only for its disclosed features:

  • activeTab / scripting: read the current page or links after a user action and place the YouTube control;
  • tabs: list open web-tab URLs for the user-requested browser-tab import and open NotebookLM or Extension pages;
  • storage: retain settings, destinations, and operation state;
  • downloads: download a slide PDF requested by the user;
  • notifications / alarms / offscreen: check user-requested generation jobs and provide a completion notification and short sound;
  • site access: maintain access to Gemini Notebook and YouTube; access to any other site is requested at runtime only when the user asks to collect links from that site.

8. Security

The Extension uses HTTPS for external transmissions and does not execute remotely hosted code. No transmission or storage system can be guaranteed completely secure, but the Extension is designed to avoid sending user data through Developer-operated servers.

9. Children

The Extension is not directed to children under 13, and the Developer does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

10. Changes

This policy may be updated when features, payments, accounts, or data practices change. The effective date will be updated, and additional notice or consent will be provided when required.
